The Digital Childhood

Digital Childhood

Check out these frightening stats, Mom & Dad….
According to a recent study from the American Academy of Pediatrics, on a typical day:

  • 75% of children (aged 0-6) watched TV for approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes
  • 27% of 5 yr olds used a computer for 50 minutes
  • 54% of young children have a TV in their bedrooms with the main reason being that it frees up other TVs in the house

There’s no question that our kids are growing up in a media saturated environment with universal access to TV. I don’t know about you, but I remember a time when kids would prefer to play outside versus holed up in the house.

Although, the long-term effects of the digital childhood are yet to be determined, I, for one, will still insist on dinner at the table and no TV in the bedroom.  Agreed?
